Best Practice Call: Using Data and Analytics to Measure and Improve Impact
Join us for the first Best Practice call of the 2019-2020 academic year, on the topic of Data + Assessment. During this call you'll hear from colleagues at the University of Iowa and DePaul about how they are using data to drive impact in their career services work.
DePaul Presenters: Sharisse Grannan, Assessment Specialist & Karyn McCoy, Assistant VP
Topic: What Happens Before the Career Outcome? Ideas for Measuring Impact Now.
Career outcomes are an important indicator of success. But what do we know about the impact we're making now? At the DePaul Career Center, we believe that excitement and optimism about the future are not only worthy goals in themselves, but also that they motivate behaviors that can lead to career outcomes. We will share how we recently standardized a measure for optimism and a few other key indicators in our program surveys in order to understand how these small, more immediate wins can lead to big impacts.
University of Iowa Presenters: Angi McKie, Assistant Vice Provost & Executive Director of the Pomerantz Career Center; Jamie Cavey Lang, Associate Director, Outcomes & Sauvik Goswami, Career Advisor & Assessment Manager
Topic: Building and integrating dashboards across campus to measure impact, strengthen collaboration and achieve results.
The University of Iowa will discuss how we worked across campus to create an internal and external dashboard using the First Destination Survey data – we will also demo the two dashboards. We will highlight challenges, considerations, and take-aways after having these in place for a few years. Finally, we will discuss how these initial dashboards have expanded our vision of how to utilize data and data visualization tools within the office – discussing our other dashboards that are in the works (example dashboards: 5 year, employer engagement, operations, student engagement, experiential education, college summary).
